The auctions for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season will be held in Dubai on December 19, 2023, making it the first time that the IPL auction will be held outside of India. This decision was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to accommodate the busy international cricket calendar and to make the auction more accessible to players and teams from around the world.
The IPL 2024 season is set to start in March 2024 and will feature 10 franchisees. The build-up to the tournament will begin on December 19 when a set of players will go under the hammer to be part of the mega-rich cricket league.
The IPL governing body is also exploring the option of a home-away format with an extended format for the 2024 season. However, the IPL season will likely have a 14-match per team format with playoffs on the agenda.
The IPL has seen six different winners so far, with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings winning five titles each. These two teams will look to improve their records in the upcoming season, while Gujarat Titans will aim to win the title for the first time. According to IPL’s unwritten rules, Chennai, as the defending champions, will host the final in May or June.
The IPL auction is sure to be one of the most exciting events in the world of cricket, and it will be interesting to see which players go for the highest prices and which teams make the most successful signings.
