Significance of Govardhan Puja

Govardhan Puja is an important festival dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill to protect the villagers from the pride of Lord Indra. This event is commemorated through the celebration of Govardhan Puja.

Govardhan Puja also serves as a reminder of the significance of nature and its importance. On this day, people express their gratitude to nature by worshiping the Govardhan Hill.

Govardhan Puja Rituals

On the day of Govardhan Puja, wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Wear clean clothes and then create an image of Govardhan Hill in the courtyard or outside the house using cow dung. Place idols of Lord Krishna and the gopis (milkmaids) on it.

Now, perform the puja of Lord Krishna and Govardhan Hill. Offer flowers, incense, lamps, and food as a form of reverence. After the puja, conduct an aarti for Lord Krishna and the gopis.

Prepare a feast consisting of 56 different dishes as an offering to Lord Krishna and the gopis. This feast is known as “annakut.”

Distribute the prasad (consecrated food) among all the people.

Significance of Govardhan Puja

It is believed that those who perform the puja of Lord Krishna and Govardhan Hill on this day receive the blessings of Lord Krishna. Their lives are filled with happiness, prosperity, and well-being.

Govardhan Puja also provides an opportunity to express gratitude towards nature. On this day, people understand the importance of nature and show respect towards it.
